Stretch Marks

Condition Summary:

Stretch marks are a type of scar caused by the skin stretching or shrinking too quicking. The abrupt changes cause the collagen and elastin, which support our skin, to rupture. As the skin heals, stretch marks may appear.

Causes:

Pregnancy, puberty, rapid weight or muscle gain are the most common causes but anything that puts stress on skin fibers can cause stretch marks.

Treatments Explained:

Stretch marks can be effectively addressed through a series of microneedling or RF laser treatments. Over time, scars tend to diminish in appearance. To aid in the fading of any remaining marks or discoloration on the skin, individuals can also make use of topical ointments.
