Wrinkle Relaxers

Wrinkle relaxing treatments are minimally-invasive treatments that require targeted injections oof medcation into the muscles of the face. The medicaton is absorbed by the nerves in the face and block the transmission of muscle-moving transmitters. We like to explain this as numbing or relaxing of facial nerves, which ultimately prevent certain muscles from movement or contracting and preventing worsening or formation of new wrinkles.

Procedure Description

Wrinkle Relaxers are treatments that relax the wrinkles and fine lines on the face. Wrinkles form as a result of reduced levels of collagen in the skin or increased skin laxity are common to mature skin. Wrinkles begin forming in 20’s and 30’s and can be a result of repetitive expressions, smoking, and sun damage. Fine lines and wrinkles can be diminished and in some cases dissipate with the use of wrinkle relaxers.

Treatments to relax wrinkles can generally be used on any area of the face. This includes forehead lines (horizontal), 11’s or glabellar lines (vertical lines between the nose), smile lines or crows feet (around the eyes), and particularly nasolabial lines around the nose and mouth, also called “expression lines”.

Botox® Cosmetic
Botox is one of the most universally loved and respected wrinkle-relaxing treatments in the world. Botox is a versatile anti-aging injectable treatment, as it can be used on both the upper face–such as the forehead and crow’s feet–and the mid-to-lower face and smile lines. Botox injections are concentrated at their injection sites.

Dysport®
Dysport is considered the second most common wrinkle relaxer and is just as versatile as Botox. However, while Botox is ideal for moderate-to-severe wrinkle concerns, Dysport is best suited to mild or moderate wrinkles.

Recovery Time & Side Effects

Recovery after Wrinkle Relaxers are generally straightforward and allows individuals to resume normal activities shortly after the procedure. Wrinkle relaxers function by temporarily easing tension in specific muscles, resulting in the diminishing of wrinkles and fine lines. Immediate effects are often visible, but patients may experience mild bruising, swelling, or redness at the injection sites. These effects are typically transient and resolve within a few days. It’s advisable to avoid massaging or rubbing the treated areas for the first 24 hours to prevent the spread of the toxin. While rare, some individuals may experience minor side effects such as a temporary headache. The recovery period is relatively short, and most individuals find that any initial discomfort is well-tolerated. The longevity of Botox results varies, typically lasting around 3-6 months, after which repeat treatments are necessary to maintain the desired effects.

Results

The results of wrinkle relaxers, which typically include neurotoxins like Botox, involve a temporary relaxation of targeted muscles, leading to a reduction in the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. By inhibiting muscle contractions, wrinkle relaxers contribute to smoother skin and a more youthful appearance. The effects are often noticeable shortly after the procedure, and individuals may enjoy a rejuvenated look that lasts for a few months.
